Hidden in a valley in the Sinai mountain range, just an hour's drive from Sharm El-Sheikh, lies a remarkable Bedouin organic herb garden that has been cultivated by the same family for generations. This half-day cultural experience offers a rare, intimate window into a centuries-old way of life that is gradually disappearing. Your Bedouin host, who speaks English, will guide you through more than 40 varieties of medicinal and culinary herbs including moringa, chamomile, wild thyme, peppermint, lemon verbena, rosemary, sage, oregano and a dozen indigenous Sinai species not found anywhere else on Earth. You will learn how each plant is grown, harvested and dried without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, relying entirely on natural spring water and traditional composting methods. The tour includes a guided walk through the terraced garden beds and the drying and storage facility, after which you sit under a palm-frond canopy for a traditional Bedouin tea ceremony where you sample up to six different herbal blends, each with a story rooted in local tradition and folk medicine. Guests also receive a small bundle of dried herbs to take home. Departing from Sharm El-Sheikh, the scenic drive through the Sinai desert passes towering sandstone formations and camel caravans that add to the sense of stepping into another world. Suitable for all ages, minimum group size two persons.
