Shark Bay is one of the Red Sea's most beloved snorkeling sites — a protected bay with a magnificent house reef teeming with marine life, and a stretch of fine sandy beach that makes it the perfect base for a half-day water adventure. This combo experience pairs two great activities into a single efficient morning or afternoon: a kayaking crossing of the bay and a thorough snorkel of the reef. You'll begin at the beach with a brief kayaking orientation, learning paddle technique, basic navigation, and how to read the water before setting off. The kayak route takes you from the shore across the sheltered bay waters to the reef edge, a paddle of approximately 20-30 minutes that gives you a unique surface-level perspective on the coastline as you glide silently above the shallow sandy bottom. At the reef, you park your kayak at the designated mooring buoy, slip into the water, and begin snorkeling. The Shark Bay house reef is rightly celebrated: a dense carpet of hard and soft corals inhabited by lionfish, grouper, trevally, masked pufferfish, the resident population of sea turtles that gave the bay its early name (not sharks — the "sharks" are actually large harmless nurse sharks occasionally spotted here), and at the right time of year, spinner dolphins feeding in the outer channel. An instructor accompanies the snorkel portion of the tour, pointing out species and ensuring everyone is comfortable. Equipment for both activities included. Great for couples, small groups, and adventurous solo travellers.
