Sharm El Sheikh: Traditional Bedouin Pottery Workshop

For thousands of years, the Bedouin peoples of the Sinai have shaped clay into vessels, lamps, and decorative objects using techniques passed from master to apprentice across countless generations. This hands-on pottery workshop invites you to step into that tradition, guided by artisans who have spent their lifetimes perfecting an art form that predates written history. The workshop takes place in an authentic Bedouin setting — a shaded workspace adjacent to a traditional courtyard where the smell of kiln-fired clay mingles with desert herbs. Your host begins with a short presentation on the history and cultural significance of Bedouin pottery — how particular vessel shapes were designed for storing water, preserving food, or burning desert resin as incense. You'll then have the chance to try three traditional techniques: hand-building using coiling, pinch pot formation, and surface decoration using carved stamps and natural pigments. The instructors are patient, intuitive teachers who work one-to-one with each guest, adjusting guidance based on experience level. Whether you create a small decorative dish, a traditional water jug form, or something entirely your own, your finished piece will be set aside to dry and can either be collected after kiln firing the following day or shipped internationally. The session includes a traditional Bedouin refreshment of sweet mint tea and freshly baked flatbread. A genuinely enriching cultural experience that slows the day down in the best possible way.
