Ancient Egypt comes alive in the most spectacular way during this 2-day fly-in tour from Sharm El-Sheikh to Luxor and Aswan, the two cities that contain the highest concentration of pharaonic monuments on earth. Day one begins at Sharm airport for the short flight to Luxor, where your air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking Egyptologist guide await. The morning takes in the West Bank of ancient Thebes: the Valley of the Kings — where the tombs of Tutankhamun, Ramesses II, and dozens of other pharaohs lie hidden in the rock — and the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most architecturally remarkable structures in the ancient world. After lunch at a Nile-side restaurant, you cross to the East Bank for Karnak Temple Complex, arguably the greatest religious building ever constructed, where the Hypostyle Hall alone contains 134 enormous columns arranged in 16 rows. That evening you board a traditional felucca for a sunset sail on the Nile and are transferred to your overnight hotel. Day two travels south to Aswan: the unfinished obelisk quarry that reveals how the ancients extracted stone, the High Dam, and a felucca crossing to the stunning Philae Temple of Isis. Flight back to Sharm in the late afternoon.
