Travelling in a convoy of well-equipped 4x4 vehicles driven by experienced Bedouin guides, you head deep into the interior of the Sinai, navigating boulder-strewn wadi beds, crossing dry riverbeds that carry flash floods in winter, and climbing high into the mountain ranges where the views across the peninsula stretch for hundreds of kilometres on a clear day. The route visits a series of dramatically different landscapes: the narrow sandstone gorges of the lower wadis, the volcanic rock fields of the high plateau, the eerie silence of ancient camel trading routes, and a hidden oasis where a natural spring feeds a grove of date palms and acacia trees — an unexpected pocket of lush life in the middle of the arid desert.
