Abu Galum is one of the most remote and ecologically pristine marine reserves in the entire Sinai Peninsula, and it is here that one of the Red Sea's most magical wildlife encounters awaits: the resident pods of wild spinner dolphins that patrol these turquoise waters year-round. This specialised snorkelling tour departs Sharm El Sheikh by boat, travelling north along the Gulf of Aqaba coastline past dramatic cliffs and isolated beaches to reach Abu Galum's protected anchorage. The journey takes approximately ninety minutes and offers spectacular coastal scenery from the water. Upon arrival, your marine guide briefs the group on responsible wildlife interaction — maintaining a respectful distance from dolphins and avoiding flash photography. The snorkelling begins at the reef fringing the reserve, where the coral here has been carefully protected for decades and is consequently among the most intact and diverse on Egypt's coastline. Finger corals, brain corals, towering sea fans, and gorgonian forests provide habitat for hundreds of species of reef fish including napoleon wrasse, lionfish, hawksbill turtles, and vast glassfish clouds. The spinner dolphins typically arrive in small groups, often curious about snorkellers and willing to swim alongside them before spiralling and leaping back to the open water. Two snorkel sessions are conducted, separated by a snack break and fresh fruit on deck. After the final session, the boat makes the return journey south, arriving back in Sharm by early afternoon. Snorkel equipment, life jackets, and a reef-safe sunscreen application station are provided.
